About the PDF Protection tool

The PDF Protection tool locks a document with a password so only people who know the password can open it. Use it for contracts, payroll data, report cards, or other personal documents before sending them by email.

You can also adjust protection settings: add a password to a PDF that is not locked yet.

How to use it

  1. Upload the PDF file you want to lock.
  2. Create a strong password and enter it twice to confirm.
  3. Click the Protect button and wait for the process to finish.
  4. Download the locked PDF, then share the password through a separate channel.

Where are files processed?

All processing runs in your device's browser using JavaScript. Files are never uploaded to any server, so there is no queue and no upload waiting time.

File size limits

This tool does not set a file size limit. Large files use more memory and take longer to process, so devices with limited RAM may feel slow when handling files of hundreds of MB.

Security & privacy

Your file never leaves your device. There are no uploads to a server, no copies are stored, and no third party can read your document. Close the browser tab and no trace of the file remains on our side.

What if I forget the password?

No. Locking runs in your device's browser, and the password never leaves your device.
Can I open a PDF locked by someone else?
No. This tool adds protection, it does not break existing protection.
